Trails

Right outside
the cabin door is the start of
many great trails. Here's a
description of one of the
longer ones.
TRAIL TO
HORSEHEAD LAKE
Start on trail
that lies between the "back 40"
and cabin and head straight.
The trail is level for a while
then starts heading down.
Mile 0.3 You
will see another trail off to your
right ( Don't take this one - this
is a loop trail that leads to our
"back 40"). Head downhill.
Water trickles from the ground
just ahead.
Mile 0.4
Trail split. Head right.
Mile 0.7 You
have reached the main forest
service road. Take a right.
The canyon is off to your left.
Great views of the river valley
during leaf off seasons. Level
trail.
Mile 1.7 You
are now on a small little road the
locals call Lee Point. Head
left downhill.
Mile 2.3 To
your left you will see an old
logging road. The trail here
is level for awhile and then
starts down and levels once again.
Mile 3.2 The
trail forks ( both paths lead to
the same spot - left is shorter
but steeper).
Mile 3.5 Head
downhill and then right at the
next split. ** The left
split takes you into the canyon
and leads to some really pretty
waterfalls.
Mile 3.6
Creek to cross.
Mile 4.0 Two back
to back creeks.
Mile 4.1
Another creek. After this
creek the trail is pretty level
all the way to the lake.
Mile 4.5
Split. To the left is an old
jeep road. The right leads
to the lake. Shortly ahead
is another split (*see below).
Head left to lake. About 0.3
miles ahead there are restrooms
and a little swimming/picnic area.
This area is maintained by the
army corps. of engineers and has a
$3. use fee.
* A right turn at
this split takes you to the
spillway. At the spillway
look to the left and you will see
a trail heading up alongside the
rock bank. There's some
great views of the lake at the
top.
****We can pick
you up at the lake if you don't
want to hike back up.
